About Stanford Optical Society

The Stanford Optical Society is a student-run organization at Stanford University interested in the promotion of optical science and technology. We collaborate with the Optical Society of America (OSA) Headquarters, SPIE Headquarters, other OSA and SPIE student chapters, and groups like the Stanford Photonics Research Center (SPRC) to provide exciting educational, networking, and community outreach activities. Find out how to join here.

From OSA's website:

"Founded in 1916, The Optical Society (OSA) is the leading professional association in optics and photonics, home to accomplished science, engineering, and business leaders from all over the world.  The Optical Society's (OSA) mission is to promote the generation, application and archiving of knowledge in optics and photonics and to disseminate this knowledge worldwide."

From SPIE's website:

"SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, was founded in 1955 to advance light-based technologies. Serving more than 264,000 constituents from approximately 166 countries, the not-for-profit society advances emerging technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, publications, patent precedent, and career and professional growth."
