Greetings, Field Friends!

With SUPR looming over the horizon like a beautiful sunrise, your very own optical society membership committee would like to think that we are setting the mood by hosting a board game happy hour in Spilker 232 this Friday at 5PM.

We have gathered the most dedicated board game addicts from within one degree of separation of our committee in order to bring you an unrivaled selection of tabletop entertainment.

But even if you hate board games, there will, of course, be drinks, snacks, and EANABS to make the entire experience bearable.

Hello Polarizing Pals!

As we all know, rain is extremely dangerous. Ever since this unnatural phenomenon began to afflict our region, going outside has become quite the ordeal. Having to put on our hermetically sealed suits and check for leaks adds significant time to our morning routines, taking away from precious sleep and work hours. Naturally, this leads to people trying to cut corners, resulting in completely avoidable injuries.

The Stanford Witch--...*ahem*...Optical  Society believes that the best way to address such ordeals is to create them in a small edible form that can be therapeutically devoured. I am...Read more

Shriram Tearoom

Hey there Grating Gang,

Winter is approaching, which can only mean one thing: The Stanford Optical Society is hosting another homemade happy hour! Specifically a happy hour that will be at 5PM in the Shriram tea room.

This time we've got 3 different homebrews coming your way from master brewsmiths Stephen and Colin: 2 beer varieties and 1 batch of spiced hard cider. In addition, based on feedback from last year, we've opted to go for one giant pot of hot chocolate, with homemade marshmallows, of course. There will also be some store-bought varieties for the less adventurous as well...Read more

Allen Courtyard

Greetings, my Collimated Compatriots,

TLDR: Big Optical Society BBQ on October 7th at 5PM in the Allen Courtyard

It's that time of year again! The time when everyone begins to notice that the bike paths are more crowded at certain times of day. The time when you run into even more people that you've never met in your building. The time when shared tools break more often and staff leave even more passive-aggressive notes in the fab.

That's right, a new year has begun with fresh new faces making fresh new mistakes!

In celebration of this

Hello fellow optics enthusiasts!

As you may be aware, the Summer Olympic Games are fast approaching, and we want everyone to be ready when the time comes! For this reason, we have decided to organize a BBQ and opening ceremony screening on Friday, August 5th in the Allen Courtyard. The ceremony officially begins at 4PM, but food will not be served until 5PM.
Speaking of food, in honor of this year’s location for the Olympics, we will have skirt steak with chimichuri sauce, as well as chicken, yams, and vegetarian options. As per usual, there will be drinks and...Read more

Friends of the optics community,

SUPR 2016 came and went those many months ago, and its experiences have likely receded to the back of our minds as fond memories which have been supplanted by the more immediate concerns of research. Similarly, we realize that many of the new connections you made during that weekend have inevitably dwindled into obscurity, as often happens when one returns to their original routine after an excursion.

In an effort to bring these memories and connections back to the forefront, we invite you to attend this year's SUPR Reunion BBQ on Friday July...Read more

Comrades, those of you reading this have survived the onslaught of the first week of the year. I see, on many of your faces, the thousand yard stare of a veteran graduate student who has seen their squad mates swallowed by the oncoming hoards of undergraduates, powerless to stop such a tragedy from occurring. But you survived. I also see, on many of your faces, the shock of entry. Jumping straight into an academic fire inevitably induces thermal mental stress, but you will adapt. Become battle-hardened. Give it time. The invasion takes its toll every day. Lunch lines become longer, bike lanes...Read more

On Friday, August, 14th, your very own membership committee will be holding a happy hour at the Allen courtyard. Not only that, but I will be bringing a large CO2 tank that just happens to be rigged so that it can pump large quantities of high pressure gas into a sealed container, the end result of which is that any liquid in that container will get rather bubbly.

We plan on serving a variety of cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages that will all be carbonated on request at any desired pressure level (if you don't specify, I'll turn it all the way up)....Read more

On September 5th, I'm proud to announce that I have booked a full 11 person slot for a room escape!  If you don't know what a room escape is, it is where you pay someone to lock you in a room, and you have 1 hour to escape. If you don't get out in an hour, you lose! For information on the specific room that I've schedule us to be locked in, here's a webpage:

The time has come to reunite with those who shared the experience of SUPR, and it comes on the anniversary of one of the most pivotal historic events in human history. Let's start from the beginning. It was a cloudy day in the city of Palo Alto that fateful July. Frankly, it was a rather dull and ordinary day by any standard, and business went on as usual. But there was an inexplicable sense of expectation in the air, felt by all, but ignored as a figment of their imagination. It was if the entire universe was a compressed spring, ready...Read more
